    Smile Lurker's Podcast idea

    Hellooo,
I've been a member of this forum for ages now, although i've just been lurking and am now planning on stepping into the dimly lit, dank basement that is the sick and wrong forum.

I thought a good conversation starter would be a podcast i've been thinking of starting and who better to talk about it to that fans of the greatest podcast ever (the sick and wrong podcast)

I recently had the idea of forming a podcast with the idea that it would be a joint effort between the community of listeners (or future listeners) and regular hosts. This podcast will be named the Open Source Podcast with the idea that, similar to open source software, the podcast will be a group effort.

If anyone is interested in recording a segment for the podcast about anything they are interested in feel free to contact me on:
    ospodcast@live.co.uk

    The current website:
    The Open Source Podcast

Thinking about the future it would be possible that people could do either one off segments for the podcast or a series over a long period of time.

The podcast will probably start as a monthly occurrence then possibly increase to once a fortnight then maybe weekly.

Feel free to ask questions, suggest ideas or send MP3s to the email address and feel free to comment below.

Is there going to be a loose theme to this podcast that ties all the content together?

Well I'm not to sure at the moment. I was thinking as the podcast starts to progress something may eventually be set from the feedback received.

I got a friend who might wanna join you, but he's got a horrible armenian accent and he only talks about Stalin and communists. He's a hardcore Stalinist himself and he's not funny. Do you want me to tell him about this thing?

If you're not careful mcfroogle, all you're gonna create is an audio version of the random thought thread.
You need to tie it all to a common theme, no matter how tenuous.

yeah good point. any suggestions? passably slightly computer and game related because existing of open source software and games. although the name Open Source Podcast was meant to suggest that anyone can help out and do there part.

I'm not trying to pick holes in the idea. The idea is sound. But if you look at any popular podcast, they all have the same thing in common. Structure. Just look at S&W. We listen to it because it's funny. But also because it forms part of our weekly routine. And when we listen to it, we are familiar with the format and what to expect. Intro - last weeks story result - this weeks stories - emails - drunk calls - outro - song of the week. It's reassuring to have that structure. The odd week when they do an interview feels wrong somehow because most of us don't like change. With the exception of Martin & Steele of course, that was a pleasure.

Yeah, very good point. I'm hoping that people will enjoy the experience and want to do a podcast each episode. so the structure would be Mr. 'X's segment, Mr 'Y's segment, (ect. ect.) then possibly a few listener emails, and the occasional piece of music from an unsigned band or something.
