Never heard of that one, though I bet it would fucking hurt. Onions make you eyes water because the gasses from them react with water to form sulfuric acid. One of the side benefits of wearing contact lenses, is near-immunity to onions.

There is a torture technique popular south of the border, involving extremey hot peppers, in dried powder form. You place the pepper powder with seltzer water, and put it in a container with a small opening or nozzle. Then you shake the container, and direct the fizzing pepper-water up the nostril of the victim. Imagine your nasal and sinus cavities full of habenero powder. Now that would suck. This technique is shown in the movie "Traffic".
