    Pirate Metal ep295

    In the episode 295 Dee played Ailstorm`s "Wenches and mead" and said that pirate metal is a new genre. Actually pirate metal was invented back in 1987 when Running Wild from Germany released their third album "Under Jolly Roger". Just thought I`d let you know...

    Just cause they (RW) sing about pirates, doesn't make it a new genre. It's power metal, the best fucking metal of them all. But what you're saying, it's like if you started calling Hammerfall "Dungeons&Dragons metal".

    Wenches and Mead does sound piratish though.

    Well Ailstorm`s music has more pirate elements in it thats for sure, but the fact is that Running Wild invented the whole "pirate metal" name and have been calling their music pirate metal since from the 80`s.

    Yeah, pirate metal isn't just about the lyrics, it's got a gritty folksy tone to it. It sounds a little Celtic, but more 'active' in a sense, if you know what I mean.
