Where were you, Wackman?
Where were you, Wackman?
I went out on my bike to get a bottle of absinthe (thanks AntiTankDog for the BevMo gift cards!), and ended up having to ride around the march to get back home.
This has to be the most drawn-out, ineffectual protest movement in history. As far as I know, the whole point of yesterday's event was to take over a vacant, bank-owned building. They ended up at the community college at one point (not a bank-owned building, not vacant), and then moved on to the Kaiser Convention Center (vacant, but owned by the city). They failed to take over anything, regardless of ownership.
All they have done in their entire time in Oakland has been to boost police overtime. If I was a cop, I'd be loving it. It's probably doubling their salaries for the year.
After just reading a newspaper article, I remembered that they also tried to take over a local YMCA, and City Hall. Neither of these are vacant or bank-owned buildings to my knowledge.
I bet the pigs were just dying for protestors to give them a reason to break out the night sticks, tazers and aerosols.
