Thread: what are brits celebrating?

so on nov 5 brits celebrate guy fawkes day, what are they celebrating?

are they celebrating that the conspiracy was discovered and the ruling elite and parliament were saved from harm or are they celebrating the small band of conspirators rising up to overthrow the oppressive government? (i would assume sort of like our own independence day but an unsuccessful attempt)

or are they celebrating something that i'm totally overlooking, like, perhaps, just using it as an excuse to light bonfires

According to American libs it glorifies the attempt at overthrowing the government.

When conservative Americans started the "Remember November" campaign- the one reminding people to vote on Nov. 2nd, the libs were all over it saying the conservatives were really plotting to overthrow the gov't.

I know nothing of European history.

It's no longer a celebration of any kind of folk lore. At this time of year we are suddenly pitched into darkness, the journey to and from work is made in the dark. I fucking love the left. They act all bold on how the Gov should not regulate drugs cause its their body not the Govs, but then bitch on how cheeseburgers and sodas should be banned and are a threat to society.

The Left is all about regulating drugs. They just passed the health care bill that regulates all health care. The left is all about more government, more regulation. The right is all about less gov't and no regulation. But you cant have good capitalism without a little socialism and you cant a good govt without any rules. Its all about moderation. I say the environment over the people and education over the environment. If this Republic is built on the backs of its people, the people should be well informed.

I think Im going to run for office.

while this is usually what is told to people come election day, it is a lie, if you look historically since the great depression (to include FDR a dem) when it is fascists in majority power they have expanded federal gov by leaps and bounds more than the dems. the difference is that dems want to expand gov social programs like health care, and the fascists expand the gov defense and security programs for example regan usually touted as a fascist savior greatly expanded the federal gov with his star wars defense program along with many other programs.

the gov is going to expand no matter what, the question becomes where do you want it to expand, would you prefer it expand into an area that does harm to people (usually foreigners) or would you prefer it expand into areas that help its own citizens and economy
