i have had a quick glance at some of the infomation floating about in the tubes about this new SOPA and PIPA shite and as a limey im not too sure on all the specifics but this sounds like some politicians are trying to fuck up what makes the internet so grand cant help but think they are being cunts any info would be helpful though
SOPA essentially grants the US the power to shut down sites which contain copyright infringements and to block sites from outside of the US from being accessed. Its a big bag of bullshit. SOPA probably won't pass though, its more of a shocker to stun the public while they slip PIPA in, with is equally as bad.
Why is this happening? Well the average age of the senate is 62.6 years old, its essentially your parents who are deciding how to run the internet, thats the problem.

Where is the S & W server based Bester? I'm pretty sure that they can't shut down the site unless the servers are stored in the US. They could however barr the site from search engines and get American ISPs to block the site.

Its very similar to SOPA, it removes "User responsibility" from websites, so that every site can now be held accountable for material posted by its users. Sites can be sued, blacklisted from search engines and have their advertisement removed based on user generated content. It also allows U.S corporations to sue any site they feel is not doing enough to stop copyright infringement.

Its total bullshit. This type of government behavior (and corporate behavior) is everything that is wrong with modern kleptocracy (Don't get me wrong, I still think kleptocracy is the best form of gov). Why the fuck is the government even getting involved with the Internet. Pirating does not disrupt public order, has a negligible effect on the economy(yes, billions of dollars is negligible when compared to the entire economy because people spend that money elsewhere), will NEVER stop completely, and only hurts really successful musicians. This is why lobbying sucks. Hopefully it won't pass.
