    Random Religion Thread

Does anyone here actually have any sort of religious beliefs or strong religious values.
Personally I don't have any beliefs, but it has come to the time of year that everyone seems to jam it in your face about being religious

hm... im assuming that the vast majority of sick and wrong listeners are atheists/agnostics so the real question is why.
I'm an agnostic because twelve years of catholic schooling only taught me that people are assholes no matter what they believe and no one with a science background can seriously believe in superstition. Any so called scientists (all 1% of 1% of them) who are devout believers are ether diluted or had it beat into their brains so hard when they where kids no amount of reason will penetrate their heads.

Are you talking about religious people or scientist because frankly both are pretty much the same, they all try to disprove each other so they are the only ones that seem logical

few scientists are actively trying to disprove religion. Only a select few i.e. Richard Dawkins, are actively trying to destroy religion. Most scientists dont really care about religion and simply are not affected by it as it rarely affects their work especially in places like Europe and if you know any scientific people ALL they care about is their work. also scientists by their very nature dont take leaps of faith which you obviously need for religion.

well, ya. Thats what they do. Every scientist wants to get to the truth. They constantly try to prove each other wrong not because they hate each other or because of personal disagreements but because they want to get closer to the truth. If a scientist made a discovery that is proven false it is because they fucked up somewhere and the other scientists are simply trying to fix the error. They don't hate the scientists because they fucked up they just want to get to the answer. This is unlike religious people who(in the more extreme cases) hate each other for stupid reasons and who blindly follow their religion without applying the scientific method.

Some may do, but I suspect most scientists don't really care about the truth too much. What they care about is getting on in their field, writing lots of papers, making a name for themselves, and one day becoming a big swinging dick. Many scientists have their pet theories, and history is full of instances where progress has been held back by older, established scientists who didn't like the new ideas. At the end of the day, scientists are just people, which means that most of them are lazy, cowardly cunts who would rather enjoy a safe, comfortable life than go out on a limb to challenge accepted beliefs.

No, it's because they are trying to promote their pet theory, enhance their reputation, and get more funding.

No, but they do hate them for not adhering to the orthodox theories, especially if they show that those orthodox theories were incorrect.
